Managed Service Delivery
Managed Service Delivery is straightforward good practice - so why don't we find
the adoption of MSD in consulting projects?
Typically, consultancies will not get engaged with the delivery of their proposed
solutions; the reason for this is that they don't have the staff that can actually
deliver the technical solution, preferring to hire and grow senior staff. One might
also claim from your failed IT experience, that the expected benefits are poorly
grounded in operational reality. However, even when a consultancy works with the
IT Manager to deliver the result, we find that the consultant is given the work
of project management with poor training and little process.
NDB have trained project managers (Prince 2) and yet have applied the philosophy
used elsewhere in our consultancy ethos of 'Reducing Process to the Irreducable
Minimum, and No Further.' The simple Plan, Deliver, Monitor and Adjust cycle shown
below is used to deliver a change and monitor the effects of the change over time,
making incremental changes as necessary. We have two key time saving tools that help
deliver parts of this cycle:The Consultative Process WorkshopThe Contact Log
