Petrotech Support
With a clear understanding of the needs of both G&G and engineering staff, NDB
have put in place a strong support organisation with its customers. We can provide
two options:
-
Traditional Onsite Support
Working on the 'cheaper better faster' rule, our staff will be trained and subject
to our MSD process, and are available for engagements which don't push you to a
long term contract. Without a large fixed back office, NDB can be much cheaper than
other 'full service' providers can offer.
-
Remote Service Provision
We have noticed that tools are becoming easier and easier to use, requiring much
less basic support. In fact this
is confirmed by a 2006 survey by Gartner, this slide is taken from NDB's review
of the support market.
Easy tool usage (the ergonomics) is both good and bad. An example: recent improvements
to both mapping and geoceullular modelling tools have meant that anyone can now
produce nice looking maps and models. Beware! Some companies are now restricting
the use of these tools unless both the science is understood and formal training
completed. Worse, nicely manipulated geological models that dont involve the early
involvement of the Reservoir Engineer cause frantic interations far too late i nthe
process. The prevalence of wizard driven workflows is causing us al lto not fully
understand the science of enabling technology behind our interpretation..
Much of what NDB does is to ensure that these tools are
better used (the 41% of time as depicted above). This type of active
support characterises where NDB can add real value to asset teams.
