Training - ongoing and always relevant
A. Technology Training
For most projects NDB has worked on the final stage is always the least well thought out. This is formal training. As part of Petrotechnical Support Services, NDB provide on the fly and on demand mentoring training. However, we find that it is dangerous for senior staff to assume that they have 'worked with many similar packages in the past and I'll pick it up in a few days by myself'. Too many tips and tricks are lost and useful short cuts are missed, sometimes forever.
A recent example was a highly skilled Petrel geomodeller who when presented with the a completely different workflow layout of JewelSuite quickly became frustrated and could not follow the different but legitimate logic and felt unable to continue using the new tool. Because of his seniority, the new tool's different technical abilities were never rolled out.
For the sake of a few days training, NDB always recommend that any project to change software includes the necessary downtime dip in productivity that is associated with the very necessary formal training from the vendor.
B. Soft Skills Training
No less relevant to tool training is the need to train your staff to present well and to better service their internal clients. NDB is proud to be associated with Carole Wright and her team at WrightWay Inc. (www.wrightway.com). Using materials developed by Carole and her team, we are engaged in a long term project to train customer facing consultants for a large Service company. There are two classes we offer based on WrightWay core content:
- Presentation Skills for Oil Industry Professionals
- Negotiation Skills for Oil Industry Professionals
NDB has also developed an internal course prototyped at LMKR Inc. in 2006 that helps service staff to improve the professionalism of the service they bring to their internal clients. typically this will be help desk support staff but also project managers, IT staff liaising between the Assets and IT departments, Business Analysts and Data room staff. The course content is
